Straight to the point: hire writers.

writing. We all do it. It’s part of most of our jobs in some way or other, and for many of us, it’s tedious. A distraction from the real work. A boggle of grammatical traps.

And then there are those of us pulled in by the allure of assembling and reassembling words. I grew up with an electric typewriter in the house and I loved the feel of each key’s tension as I played with various pressure levels. That visceral feeling stays with me all these years later. Writing still sparks a power in me.

I once saw an encouragement to employers to hire people who can write—like, write write—because writers are thinkers. To me, that means a few things:

  •  Writers have to dive into the warren of existing words and thoughts to figure out intent.
  •  In that way, we are translators.
  •  Usually, that means we take a concept someone knows intimately and opens understanding of that concept to others.
  •  Maybe, more than anything, writers are liberators.

Oh, now that does sound romantic in the swashbuckling sense, doesn't it? Wellllll...Even for those of us called to scribbling, it’s hard work. If romance means asking the same question in different ways or cutting back so much of what we struggled to coax out in the first place, then yes. That’s what it is.

All this to say, hire a writer and you’ll get someone who is quietly clearing paragraphs and ideas and plans to reassemble them in ways that make sense to more people. Say “yes" to freedom! Say “sometimes to AI.” Trust a writer who understands humanity. Reach out to me at unspun.ca about your next writing project.
